Case Credit Union Honored with National Awards

Lansing, MI – 10/25/12 – Lansing-based CASE Credit Union has been honored with several national awards including recognition for its excellence in technology, community outreach and financial education programs.

The CUNA Technology Council “Excellence in Technology” award recognizes outstanding approaches to technology challenges with potential for universal application across the credit union movement. CASE Credit Union won for its innovative improvements to provide members access to information through a variety of methods to reach members who are younger and do their banking in less traditional channels and require more unique and creative ways to reach and service them. The award was given during the Council’s 17th Annual Conference in Las Vegas in October.

Established in 1995, the CUNA Technology Council is a member-led organization made up of more than 600 credit union technology experts across the United States. The Council’s goal is to shape the advancement of credit union technology by leveraging collective peer strength through the sharing of information and fostering of professional development.

“It is through superior member service, quality staff and a can-do attitude that CASE Credit Union was able to be recognized at both the state and national level,” says CASE Credit Union President and CEO Jeffrey S. Benson, CPA, MBA. “We are dedicated to serving our members as well as the greater Lansing community.”

The Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award recognizes model credit union efforts to strengthen local institutions and materially improve the lives of nonmembers through community outreach programs other than personal finance education. This year CASE Credit Union was awarded second place nationally in its asset size.

CASE received its Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Award for the CASE Cares Miracle Baseball Field, which gives children and adults with disabilities a safe, inclusive space to play baseball. The rubberized field is one of just three in the state. After several years of fundraising and work, the grand opening ceremony for the field took place in May 2012. In addition to ongoing support, CASE provided $25,000 in seed money to start CASE Cares, the foundation which oversaw the project. “We are honored and humbled that our efforts have been so highly recognized,” says CASE Cares Board of Directors Chair Kathy Devine. “The baseball field project is a great example of individuals, groups, businesses and government working together to achieve a common goal.”

CASE Credit Union also received a second national award, with an honorable mention for the Alphonse Desjardins Youth Financial Education Award. With a renewed approach to its financial education programs, the credit union was able to reach 2024 students across two counties during the 2011-12 school year. The new program included games and lesson plans, networking opportunities, youth club accounts, newsletters, and social media. CASE representatives were even called to testify at the Michigan State House of Representatives on the benefits and successes of youth financial education.

Organized in 1934, the Michigan Credit Union League (MCUL) has a proud tradition of innovation and leadership among the nation’s credit union trade associations.

All of the national winners will be formally honored at a special ceremony and reception at the CUNA GAC in Washington on February 27, 2013. MCUL (Michigan Credit Union League) & Affiliates will also honor the state and national level winners at the AC&E in May 2013.

Established in 1936 by Lansing area educators, CASE Credit Union is a full-service financial institution serving 30,000 members and managing more than $210 million in assets.
