(Albany, NY) –The New York Credit Union Foundation, the charitable arm of the Credit Union Association of New York, today reactivated their Disaster Relief Fund to help credit union employees and members most severely impacted by Hurricane Sandy. The devastating hurricane has left much of the downstate area without power, and in some cases flooded, for the last two days.
“Our goal with this fund is to support those individuals who need assistance with daily living expenses and/or who need financial assistance to cover storm-related expenses,” said William J. Mellin, the Association’s president and CEO.
Early reports from Long Island credit unions have indicated that a few members of their staff have lost their homes, others have experienced serious property damage.
“I encourage those who can, to support this fund. Even the smallest donation adds up and will help our credit union family, which is still dealing with the devastation Hurricane Sandy has left behind,”added Mellin.
Contributions are welcome from credit unions, chapters, credit union vendors and individuals. To make an online contribution, go to the Foundation’s website, www.nycuf.org, and click on the Donate Now button on the home page.
Credit unions may donate via a funds transfer into the Foundation’s deposit account #221304873, share type #060 through Alloya Corporate FCU’s Premier View or via their Members Services Department at (800) 342-4328. Please e-mail the donation amount and date of transfer to allison.barna@cuany.org.
