San Diego, Calif., July 27, 2012 — John Tippets, President & CEO of North Island Credit Union, headquartered in San Diego, California, was chosen as CEO of the Year by the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU). Tippets and other winners in NAFCU’s 2012 Annual Awards Competition were honored in conjunction with NAFCU’s 45th Annual Conference in Nashville, July 24—28.
“Since he took over the helm in late 2009, John has faced innumerable challenges, made tough decisions, showed creativity and determination and effectively galvanized a dedicated staff to achieve remarkable results.,” said Rebecca Collier, Board Chair. “This award is a testament to his outstanding service on behalf of our members.”
Tippets has been active in the CU community throughout his life, serving as a speaker on the NAFCU Regulatory and Legislative Affairs Committees, CUNA International Task Force and National Credit Union Values Campaign. He already had a keen understanding of global and national economics and has now expanded that expertise to include the San Diego and California markets.
The Annual Awards Competition named the CEO of the Year in two credit union asset-size categories. Tippets was a winner among credit unions with $150 million or more in assets. Annual Awards winners were celebrated during the awards ceremony and breakfast July 26 at NAFCU’s 45th Annual Conference and Exhibition and profiled in an upcoming issue of The Federal Credit Union magazine.
