Cobalt Credit Union and the SAC Foundation donate over $25,000 to veteran to keep his house

Papillion, NE (April 18, 2025) |

Cobalt Credit Union and its charitable arm, the SAC Foundation, are proud to stand behind local veteran Ron Hernandez with a $25,000 donation that helped him and his family remain in their longtime home.

Hernandez, a U.S. Air Force veteran and founder of the nonprofit Moving Veterans Forward, was recently faced with losing his home while battling stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Despite having helped more than 3,400 fellow veterans find housing through his organization, Hernandez found himself in urgent need—facing a $47,000 deadline to purchase the house he and his wife have called home for decades.

When we heard his story, we knew we had to act.

“At Cobalt, our commitment to veterans and the military community goes beyond banking—it’s about doing what’s right when it matters most,” said Robin Larsen, President and CEO of Cobalt Credit Union. “Ron has given so much to others through his work. It was our honor to help give back to him.”

The donation was made through the SAC Foundation, which supports causes aligned with military, community, and charitable needs across the region. Together, with additional contributions from the Papillion Community Foundation, local organizations, and individual donors, more than $91,000 was raised—ensuring the Hernandez family can stay in the home where they raised their children and care for their grandchildren.

“Ron never asked for help for himself. His entire mission has always been serving others,” said Keli Wragge, Board Chair of the SAC Foundation. “It’s our turn to serve him.”

Cobalt Credit Union has a longstanding history of supporting veterans, active-duty military, and their families through financial services, charitable giving, and partnerships that make a difference. The SAC Foundation continues that tradition by responding to urgent community needs with compassion and action.
