When we say credit unions are about “people helping people,” it’s not just a slogan—it’s a guiding principle. As President and CEO of CrossState Credit Union Association representing Pennsylvania and New Jersey, I’ve seen firsthand how the partnerships within the credit union league system amplify our ability to serve members and drive meaningful change. That’s why I’m committed to elevating and strengthening those ties every day.

So, what exactly is the credit union league system? Simply put, it’s a network of state and regional associations—like CrossState—working to advance the interests of credit unions and their members. This system exists to strengthen our collective voice, offer education and resources, and drive innovation. In an industry where regulatory and technological shifts can have sweeping impacts, the league system is our defense, offense, and everything in between.

Advocacy lays at the heart of our mission. Legislation and regulations can make or break the ability of credit unions to serve our communities effectively; our impact is exponentially greater when we work together. Through the unified efforts of credit unions and our Leagues, we engage lawmakers, advocate for sound policy, and make sure the unique voice of credit unions is heard loud and clear. Our collaboration and work with Americas Credit Unions (ACU) and the American Association of Credit Union Leagues (AACUL) empower us to be more formidable, more persuasive, and more effective. When it comes to shaping policy, unity isn’t just advantageous—it’s essential. We can’t afford to operate in silos.

The why behind our advocacy efforts is simple: Credit unions exist to serve their members, not to generate profit. Yet, they face the same regulatory hurdles as larger financial institutions.

But our work doesn’t stop at advocacy. At CrossState, we know staying ahead means constantly changing. That’s why we prioritize innovative education and professional development—offering training, leadership growth, and industry insights to keep credit union professionals on top of their game. Whether it’s a cybersecurity workshop or a fintech conference, we bring experts together to share knowledge and fuel innovation.

Innovation is essential as credit unions face a digital crossroads. Our credit unions demand seamless, tech-driven experiences, and leagues are here to help them embrace change. From creating fintech partnerships to increasing cybersecurity, we collaborate with our extended networks to stay ahead of trends and keep credit unions competitive. At the same time, we’re growing our members' community impact, uniting resources to support positive change.

The credit union league system is evolving to be more connected, more innovative, and more agile. The future requires us to be proactive—embracing digital transformation while staying true to our cooperative roots. The League System’s commitment to evolution and collaboration ensures we’re ready for whatever comes next and that we’re investing in the future of our members’ ability to overcome challenges.

As the credit union league system evolves, our role has never been more crucial. As Leagues, we’re not just adapting to change—we’re driving it. Through collaboration, innovation, and a shared commitment, we’re shaping a future where credit unions remain the cornerstone of vibrant, resilient communities. Together, we can navigate the challenges ahead, and that’s something worth celebrating.
