2020 elections remain undecided, but CUs are well-positioned for success

While election results continue to roll in and with the Presidential race still undecided, credit unions are well positioned for success in 2021 and beyond.

Our industry is bipartisan, and NAFCU stands ready to work with both Democrats and Republicans should Vice President Joe Biden win or should President Donald Trump be re-elected when the final votes are tallied. However, with such a tight race it may be some time before we have a clear-cut winner, and there is still the possibility of legal challenges.

As for Congress, it appears that the Democrats will maintain control of the House of Representatives. On the other side of Capitol Hill, control of the Senate is still to be decided with several races too close to call.

Overall, Republicans in both houses of Congress have fared better than many pundits anticipated, and there is a good chance that Republicans maintain control of the Senate by the tiniest of margins.

The results that emerge in the next few days will have an impact both on the upcoming Congressional lame duck session, which starts next week, and the new Congress when it convenes in January.

It is important to remember that there are several issues still to be resolved this year before we even get to the winners being sworn in come January. Congressional leaders will soon turn their attention to the remaining work left for this Congress, and NAFCU will be advocating for credit unions every step of the way.

The fact is credit unions are popular, but we need your support to help bring our positive message directly to Washington policymakers in the new Congress. Each election cycle, we actively work to build new relationships with new members of Congress and build upon our relationships with returning representatives.
